Is it rude to carry on a 10 minute personal cell phone conversation while at a restuarant with a friend ?
My best friend will carry on a lenthy conversation with her boyfriend while we are out to dinner. It is a non emergeny and I just be at table listening to her go on and on. I find it quite rude. Should I.
Of course! I could see if it happened once, and it was something important. Then, she could excuse herself, and pop away for a moment, and handle whatever the situation was as quickly as possible, etc. But just sitting on the phone for the sake of chatting, and ignoring you is downright ignorant. Obviously that’s a big slap in the face that your company isn’t good enough, and she can’t be away from her boyfriend for that long without talking to him! . . .If there were circumstances that made this okay, you would know about them, and have already thought this through. (For instance, my BFF has a boyfriend in Iraq. When he gets a moment to call, we all drop everything, middle of dinner or not!) Bring up the issue to her, casually and politely that it can be seen as rude, and hurts your feelings.
